Question one: In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

For the first scene we chose to film the murderer approaching the house at night to set an eerie atmosphere, the dark lighting also helped to conceal the murders face and create a mysterious feel as to who the character is and what his intentions are, the costume signifies he is some form of army personal el and ask the question who is he? where is he from? is he returning home? this grabs the audience and draws them into the story.

The second scene we chose to film during day light to show to the audience the change in time and represents the new day, this also tells the audience the suspense is over and the murder has been committed, it also signifies everyone in the scene is potentially the good guy in the film, but also symbolises the detective as a hero.

Mise En Scene

One key component in are filming was the costumes making it clear to
the audience who each actor was trying to represent or what there roles
are in the film, Peter and Matias are both dressed as men who are part of the forensic team examining the crime scene, my role as the inspector required me to wear a suit to show i play an important character in the film. Grants costume for the first scene is a basic army uniform to show his role as an army personnel returning from his tour of duty, his prop bag also backs the intention that he is returning home.

In comparison to other crime/thrillers we followed there guidelines by using the correct outfits so it is clear to the audience that the area is a crime scene, we chose to do several close ups of important props to show they are vital to the story line of the film.
For are setting we choose to use an averge family home to relate to real people and every day activities that go on, another

reason we choose my home was the front garden which could use to hide evidence that would be uncovered later in the film opening, the road was also well lit which we used for the first opening scene.

Question two: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

To meet the criteria of the audience are group created a questionnaire to see what are potential audience wanted to see in the film, for example the majority of the audience wanted the killers face to be concealed, and what they expect the crime scene to look like, in are survey we found that most og the general public

would rate a crime thriller as a 15, this let us understand who are target audience is, which will be teenagers who are interested in murder mysterie styled film, also the film would incorperate a small amount of action which would also draw in action fans.

In are film we used all male characters which represents an a traditional working world, also in the film we show women as vulnerable when Grant (Millitary Person el) screws up the photograph of a women and approuches her home, this is reiniforced by the drone sound effect which begins straight after the photograph is destroyed, as for age all of are characters are young which represents the modern working world with each actors hair style, but maintaining the traditional clothing for each indivisual role. Camera shots also reinforce males as strong characters using low angle shots to introduce them, and concealing the face of the potentional murderer. as there are no women in any of the opening scene is shows a figure of authority towards the male figures in the film such as the detective who plays the role of the hero trying to arrest the villain.

Question three: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

For are distributor we chose the UK Film Council because we are a new film company producing low budget films with no well known actors, also we only use digital film technology which means we only need a low budget to produce a film, as for the distribution side of the film we know it wouldn't make it to a multiplex cinema but more smaller independent cinemas, and TV distribution would most likely be Film4 which broadcast low budget and independent films, however this means are film is shown to small audience, however would be a large enough audience for a low budget film, another distributor could be 'Vertigo' because they are a company who disbrute small films such as Shifty, a film that took eighteen days to produce and a low budget of £80,000 and produced by small company Steel Mill Pictures. Another method we could use to distribute are filmk is upload it to a site such as IndieMovieonline.com, which allow people to upload there movies and distribute them for free or charge an audience to view.

Question four: Who would be the audience for your media product?

To find out who are main target audience would be we produced this question in are questionnaire,' What do you personally feel is a suitable age certificate for a Crime/Thriller', a majority of are audience voted 15 which gave us an idea of what age range would be interested in the viewing of our film, also gives us a guideline of what is aloud to be shown in are film with out using content which is not suitable for a certificate 15 film and diminishing the amount of our audience, also we found out the type of people who would be interested in seeing are film which would be people who like murder mysteries and action films, they both however seek the same thing the experience to see something they don't see in every day life but with in the safety of the cinema, they also like this fantasy that all the people that commit crimes are eventually caught and brought to justice which is shown in all film however this isn't something that relates to everyday life, so in some ways the film is away from reality, however they also like to watch the detectives and follow them as they unravel the mystery of the murder(s) and reveal who he is.

Question five: How did you attract/address your audience?

To attract a large an audience of possible we first started by following the demands of are audience from what they wanted from the film, for example the lighting be dark during the murder, ect, however are main method was to branch out to new potential audience by creating this poster which could be  printed and posted around, or posted on social networking sites and spread through word of mouth with a very cost effected method for small film companies, also by distributing trailers of video sites such as Youtube, An effective method is placing the poster around on the net with no information on what the film is or about, this gets an audience roped in and searching the net to find out information on what it is or about, this was done to advertise the film monsters, a film produced by a small British company and distributed by Vertigo. While doing this we had to consider are target audience and the reasons they would come and view are film, for mystery seekers who like a film that they can enroll in and try themselves to piece together the murder to find the villain, others may be seeking the adrenaline of the action that will be incorporated into the film, another method of attracting an audience is keeping the film related to the real world and not a fantasy so the audience can relate and view something that they may not ever see in there normal day to day lives.

Question six: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

From the production are final product i have learned that todays media technology means even people like us with a low budget can produce a film using a variety of cheap yet cost effect methods, such as advertising through social networking sites such as Facebook, also the filming side of the project is much easier with digital rather than film because of number of reasons, such as cost of film where as digital can be simply shot, retaken, deleted, upload, and edited with little cost and effort, also the compact camera made it easy to shoot the film, the editing side of the film was also an easy process in getting the best quality and effects from out film, such as adding sound, improving
video quality, transitions, titles, and special effects. The interenet has also been one of are main resources to source information to help the production and distribution of are film, i have also learned how to use blogger to record and document my work, Youtube has also helped in the research of existing films that relate with the same genre as ours, also found companies use Youtube to distribute there film by creating a blog and uploading trailer(s) to the blog for the public to view and gain an insight into the film and make a decision if the film is for them.

Question seven: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

in the progression from are preliminary task to are final product i have learned a vast amount of knowledge about media, one thing i have perfected the most is focusing on Mise En Scene, such as thinking about the setting, props, and outfits for the characters so the audience have a good understanding about what was happening in each scene of the film, another skill i have learned is using camera angles to show to the audience how we wanted them to feel about each character, scared, respected, and which were the key characters in the film, we also improved on are editing of are clips since are preliminary, we shot the preliminary using in camera editing which means we shot each scene in sequence till we got it right and there for would already be one continues scene without the need to do much editing on a computer, all we need to do was add a sound file.
